Cache Technology at Processor

If we look at a specification of the processor will find a term, called a cache. What is Cache? Cache has a function that has a significant role in determining the performance of a computer. When we know what is processor cache, then we will be able to improve the performance of the computer.

Cache can be defined as a space on the processor that functions as a 'place where the data are often used,' the effect the performance of the computer will work faster. The big cache and a faster processor performance because it provides more storage space is large. Average processors now have a large L2 Cache, between 2 - 8 Mb, and even processor Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 has a L2 Cache of 12 MB.

Cache in some type, ranging from 1 Cache (L1 Cache), 2 cache (L2 Cache) up to 3 cache (L3 cache). L1 cache is the cache closest to the processor so that it is the fastest way to execute the data.

When we are operating the computer data from hard drives, the data will be moved to memory / RAM, and data from the memory / RAM will also be moved to the cache on the processor. Please note that, if viewed in terms of the speed of access by the processor, the data retrieved from the hard drive is the most slowly, followed by the memory / RAM, and to the L3 cache, L2 cache and L1 cache to the last.

As a comparison, the time needed by the processor to access data from the L2 cache has a speed of 2 - 3 times when compared with the taking of memory / RAM. Because of that, the technology in the processor cache holds a relatively important role in determining the speed of data access.
